8th Grade Dance
The 8th Grade Dance will be held on Friday, June 8, 2012 from 7-9:30 PM.  We are greatly looking forward to celebrating with the 8th grade class before they embark to their respective high schools.

As the SCA prepares a night to remember for the 8th grade class, we would like to ask for prepared food tray donations (sandwich, veggie, chicken tenders, etc.).  This will assist in the costs that SCA has budgeted and fund-raised for.  If you would like to make a donation or have any questions regarding the dance, please contact Mrs. Childs, 8th grade administrator.

Thank you for all of your continued support of Lake Ridge Middle School.

July 23 - August 2, 2012
Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
Gar-Field High School
1400 Smoketown Road
Woodbridge, VA

The PWC Orchestra Camp is a balanced program of musical instruction and activities dedicated to providing a concentrated, two-week music experience for string students in rising grades 4-12. The program emphasizes individual musical growth through the development of stronger technical skills and a more discerning musical aesthetic. It is also the ideal environment for students who are switching string instruments or at the beginning stages of their development. For additional information and camp registration form, email Ms. von Bernewitz at vonberka@pwcs.edu or visit the PWCS Arts Department page.
Figurative Language with Ms. Willis
Ms. Willis's 6th grade language arts students created figurative language books using Story Kit & Skitch on the iPads. Each page of their book included an example of a literary device, an image to represent the literary device, and an audio recording of the student reading their example. As an added bonus, students also had the opportunity to read Story Kit books teaching about Ballpark Comparisons of metric and customary units of measure that were created in Mrs. Osborne's 6th grade math classes as well as Poetry Books that were created by Ms. Seifried's 6th grade language arts classes. Anyone interested in viewing these storybooks should check out the 7B iPads and see how valuable these iPads are becoming as an authentic in-house publishing venue for our students.
Parent Portal Update
Parents, if you have not created your own account on Parent Portal, or you need to modify your contact information, now is the time. On Friday, June 1st, Parent Portal registrations and online contact editing will be turned off and no further registrations or edits will be accepted until the Fall.
SOL Testing
SOL Testing begins at LRMS on Monday, May 14th, and will continue through Friday, June 8th. Please check the school Counseling Office page for more information regarding specific dates and times for testing.
Ms. Seifried's Students' Poetry Books
Ms. Seifried's 6th grade language arts students created poetry books using Story Kit. Each page of their book included a literary device, an original poem using that type of figurative language, an image to represent the poem and/or literary device, and an audio recording of the student reading their poem. As an added bonus, students also had the opportunity to read Story Kit books teaching about Ballpark Comparisons of metric and customary units of measure that were created in Mrs. Osborne's 6th grade math class. Anyone interested in viewing these storybooks should check out the 7B iPads and see how valuable these iPads are becoming as an authentic in-house publishing venue for our students.
